MEDICAL TUBES and HIGH-PERFORMANCE THERMOPLASTIC TUBING (TPE'S)

TPE elastomers are ideal for medical applications, seals and gaskets where high flexibility and superior recovery are required. Chemical-resistant medical tubing for a wide range of biopharmaceutical applications. Manufacturing and designing antimicrobial tubing and profiles. Medical-grade quality products. Temperature range -50°c to +130°c
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE MEDICAL TUBING

We are able to manufacture specialist PVC tubes for medical use and currently supply clear tubes for urology and physiotherapy as well as star lumen tubes in PVC, TPE, and silicone. While we do not currently manufacture under clean room conditions, we do offer medical-approved PVC grades for outer body applications.

We also offer antimicrobial tubing and profiles and we can help in the design and manufacture of antimicrobial healthcare products for various healthcare environments. Antimicrobial products are products that are defined as being able to resist, inhabit, and prevent the growth of tiny microbes, including bacteria and mould, and have become more relevant after COVID as a way of protecting healthcare surroundings. We use additives in our polymers that typically contain silver or zinc and offer excellent microbial protection.

    What is a TPE?

TPEs are Thermoplastic Elastomers and are possibly the most exciting technological advance in plastic extrusion in recent years. Introduced commercially in the 1960s, TPE is a polymer material with the characteristics of thermoset vulcanised rubber and thermoplastic. TPE exhibits the high elasticity of thermoset vulcanised rubber at room temperature and good processability of thermoplastic at high temperatures. TPE is able to rival many thermoset compounds such as rubber and silicone with many similar qualities but with one major difference, they are recyclable and easily processed.

    THERMOPLASTIC TUBE CHARACTERISTICS

Thermoplastic elastomer tubing must fulfil the following three essential characteristics:

  • The ability to be stretched to moderate elongations and, upon the removal of stress, return to something close to its original shape
  • Processable as a melt at elevated temperatures
  • Absence of significant creep
  • Because they are thermoplastic, they can easily be co-extruded with PP-based materials, and they offer superior properties to PVC-based materials, including:

  • Excellent dynamic properties, for example, creep and fatigue
  • Exceptional resistance to oils and greases, good general resistance to chemicals
  • Excellent strength over a wide range of temperatures
  • Excellent heat resistance (long-term 165°C)
  • Good electrical insulation properties
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Excellent dimensional stability
